A Lazy Designer's Halloween Decor

Y’all, I have three kids, two dogs, a mess of a house, a job, and a hubby that I like enough to want to spend time with… I do not have time for Halloween decor. Not to mention it’s still hot in Florida which does not scream, “time to grab your pumpkins, girl!”.

Buuuuuuut we’re hosting our very first friend gathering since we moved to St Pete at the end of the month (yay!) so it was time to get our house in the holiday spirit. Here’s what I did around the house to get ready for Halloween without making myself crazy. (I mean, we’re still doing general home updates and fixes. I cannot deal with a temporary decorations. I just can’t.) Now I’ll definitely add a bit for the official party, but I’m loving these simple (and dare I say, basic) halloween touches that you can easily copy on a budget.

Floating which hats for a festive front porch.

First I hung five which hats on our porch with fishing line. Most promptly fell down which is why we now have three floating which hats on our porch. After finding creative solutions to keep these three in place, I was totally over it and so three it is!

We also have a sweet little pile of pumpkins in the empty concrete planter which apparently will without a doubt rot even if we don’t carve them because we now live in Florida and this is how we do Fall in blazing sunshine.

Inside, I wanted simple touches of Halloween that would not require any major storage bins at the end of October. We have a small home with minimal closet space and I refuse to stuff more junk into the (tiny) garage. My solution?

Paper bats on a few walls throughout the house because I said I was basic and they are just so darn easy and fun. Downloadable Etsy Prints because I have a giant gallery wall begging for some creepy Halloween vibes. And finally, floating candles because we’re a house that loves Harry Potter and if you can add a little magic, you 100% should.

Now the candles will be lit for the Halloween party and Halloween night, but your girl didn’t want to waste batteries so for now we’re just enjoying them as is. I do think the flickering glow of the candles will look awesome through our front window though so I can’t wait to pull together the full Halloween vibe.

Following our gathering, I'll share a follow up post with all the additional party decor in case you need any last minute ideas for the 31st. We’ll be hosting our first backyard movie night for the kids and I’ll hopefully have some fun, Halloween themed snacks to show off to you guys. For now, enjoy the links to my lazy Halloween decor below.
