Lovely Tip: How to See if Your Selections Work Together

If you’re looking to update your spaces, but are a bit nervous about whether or not all your new and existing pieces will go well together, here’s a Lovely Tip you can use to calm that anxiety.

Pull images (either photos of your own items or online images of new product) into Canva and place them all on one page together. If you have the paid version of Canva, you can also remove the backgrounds of all your images to remove other distractions and see your selections more clearly.

By placing all your items side by side, you can quickly review your selections to see if anything stands out as missing the mark. Here are some questions you can ask yourself:

  • Is there anything that seems too bright/bold/dark/busy in comparison to my other selections?

  • Do any of these items seem out of place? Too modern? Too traditional?

  • Does my color palette flow throughout and make sense to me?

Now most of these questions are going to be a matter of opinion, not fact, so don’t ask a million other people about it. You are asking yourself - does this make sense to me? Does this flow for me?

Odds are that if anything seems terribly out of place, you’ll notice it in this little assignment rather than realizing it after you’ve purchased the item.

Please note this tip will not help you determine if your sizing, space planning, etc is correctly thought out. If you’re struggling in those areas too, you’d likely benefit from the support of an interior designer.
