How to Love Your Home Again (without spending a penny): Part Four

Shop. (Well, kinda.)

Welcome to Part Four of our How to Love Your Home Again (without spending a penny) Blog Series! We’re mid way in our series and by now you’ve hopefully focused on gratitude, editing, and unfollowing. If some of those tasks haven’t been completed, take a moment to set a day/time to tackle those to dos.

Today we’re focused on shopping!

Sometimes our discontentment towards our spaces lies less in our desire/need for new items and more in the monotony of being surrounded in the same items day after day. By simply “shopping your home”, you can refresh your spaces without spending a penny.

When you have time, I want to encourage you to evaluate each room in your home and make notes of what you could potentially swap out with an option from another room.

For example, do you have an area rug (of similar sizing) in both a bedroom and living room? Could you swap the placements of each rug?

Could your side table become a nightstand? Or a nightstand become a living room side table?

Have your shelves been accessorized in the same way for a long time? Take it all down. Pull accessories from other spaces and bring them all together. Then restyle your shelves (or table top, etc.) using your items in a new combination.

Lovely Tip: Work in odd numbers when grouping items together in a vignette for the most appealing combination. Find more shelf styling tips here.

Try changing out artwork either by swapping items around or adding fresh images into frames. Have an old calendar, magazine or illustrated book lying around? Pull a page out and pop into a frame. Boom, fresh new (and free) art! (There’s also lots of free digital art offered out there on the interwebs.)

The options are truly endless, friend. You simply need to embrace looking at your space with fresh eyes. Just because “it’s always been there” doesn't mean it must stay there. Be creative and brave enough to try something out. There’s literally nothing to lose.

Do me a favor and take a quick “before” photo of your spaces prior to changing anything. Then take an “after” photo of your refreshed spaces and send the before and/or after images my way or share them on socials and tag @lovelylarkliving.

I’d love to see what you plan to change up and, bonus, I’ll give you extra tips on how to finish styling the space if needed.
